Basketball (R2)

This Saturday [26th September] the second round of zone 1 was hosted by Mpelembe. We were playing two teams only, Lechwe and Mpelembe. Our first game was against the host team, Mpelembe. We were not mentally prepared for that game. I think the team was a little over confident and tired too. All our basketball games were after the volleyball games [The same girls play both teams]. Most of the girls were exhausted and tired and nervous too. We played the game fairly well, but we could not get the baskets in. We had many opportunities, but we failed to get the ball into the basket most of the times. We were really scrappy during the game. It was not the best game we played, but we won it 8-4.

The second game was much better than the first game we played. Lechwe gave us a good fight, which made us alert on the court. We were better prepared for this game, mentally and physically. It was our last game, we were  all tired, but we still gave it all we had left at the end of the day. We won that game 12-3. We got more baskets in that game, but we still need to work on that. Overall we came out 1st again in basketball. It was nice to see Tina on the team again. I was encouraged by the feedback most people were giving after the game on what we need to improve on. Even the little comments from the teammates from the bench were uplifting.

Vollyball

On the 19th September we went to Lechwe school to participate in the volleyball tournaments.
There were only three teams including the Amano team at the tournaments. They were Lechwe, Mpelembe and Amano.

Our first game was against Mpelembe and it was a good game though we lost 0-2 sets. We lost because we had no proper serves and there was minimum communication between the team and support. We hope to work on that in our next tournaments.

Our second and final game was against Lechwe and we also lost that game 0-2 sets. We improved in our calling but we lost many serves and we did not support or cover a team member. We hope to learn from our mistakes and apply them in our next tournaments.

Big thanks to the team for their work and co-operation and to the Groves for coaching and taking us there.

Basketball (R1)

On Saturday [19th September] we went to Lechwe to play our first set of games for the zone. Kalulushi did not have a girls basketball team, so we only played with Lechwe and Mpelembe. Our first game was against Lechwe. We were nervous as a team considering that it was our first game of the season. We had several new team members on the team. I was really impressed with Grace’s performance because she is a new student, but she blended in well with other team mates. Her performance in the game was pretty good too. We played well in the first game and won it 13-4.

Our second game was against Mpelembe. We were nervous about that game. It was also the last game we were scheduled to play. It was hot, and we were tired from all the other games, but we still gave it all we had and we also won that game 14-4. Kathleen scored most of the baskets during that game. Tina played really well during the game, it was nice hearing her cheer up the team and be loud. Overall we came out 1st in basketball and played well as a team, considering that they were our first games of the season.

[With 2 wins Amano came top of the group. Mr Grove]

Volleyball Zone1

On Saturday 19th September we went to Lechwe School to participate in the zone one volleyball tournament.
On that particular day three schools were present, Lechwe, Mpelembe and Amano. Our first game that day was against Mpelembe and our team played very well in the first set but still lost that set. We played two sets in that and put up a very good fight but still lost that game 2-0.
Our second game was against Lechwe School and we put our mind into that game and were determined to win it. In the end we won that game 2 sets - 0. We hope to play better next week and learn from our mistakes this past week.

I would like to thank the team for their perseverance throughout the games we played, and to Mr Grove especially, for taking us there and teaching us the necessary skills in order to play the game.
