U13 Girls Football at Simba

On Saturday 25^th March 2017 the u13 girls went for soccer at Simba International School Ndola. The games started at 9.30 hrs. Our first game was against Mountainside. The few minutes at the beginning were okay but the team had pressure and were nervous. It didn’t stop us attacking, defending and striking but we ended the first half 0-0. We gained more confidence in the second half and shot more but unfortunately neither team scored so we drew ha game 0-0.

 

U13 Girls Football Team

The second game was against Simba. We tired and we lost the captain who was the striker so we gave Simba a chance to keep the ball at our goal. They managed to score. Changes were made at half time so we did better but right before the end of the game Simba squeezed in a goal and we lost that game 2-0.

Our third game was against Mukenzie. We did really well and in the first few minutes we scored 2 goals. In the second half we scored 2 more goals. The last goal was not clear because Amano shot, the Mukenzie keeper tried to catch the ball but hit it into her goal and we scored. So we won that game 5-0.

Overall we came 2^nd out of 4 schools. We persevered and pushed through the pain.

U11 Girls Football at Simba

On Saturday 25th of March, the U11 girls went to Simba to play football.Our first game was against Simba. It was tough because they were strong.Simba scored first , but then we had a come back and scored by Kukenga.In the second half Simba scored again, but then we had another come back and scored by Natasha C. It was a lucky goal for her because the goalie wasn't watching! That made us draw 2 - 2.

Our next game was against Mukenzi. These girls were brutal but in a way, easy. I don't know which half of the game we scored but Kukenga did it.We won 1 - 0.

U11 Girls Football Team

Our last game was against Mountainside. The girls were even more brutal.They kicked, slapped, tripped and they pushed. Almost everyone got hurt.Mountainside scored in one of the halves. That made them win 1 - 0. This game we had a harsh referee but we had to deal with it. The other two games were nice because the referee was lovely.

Overall Amano U11 girls came second. A big thanks to Mrs Kirk and Mr Kapalaula for coaching and encouraging us. I also thank God for not so bad injuries and for safe travels. Finally thank you team for trying so hard.

U11 Boys Football at Simba

It was an honour to be Captain of the U11s boys team at the football tournament on Saturday [25^th March 2017] at Simba.

U11 Boys Football Team

We played 3 games. Our first was against Simba A which we lost 4-0.

Our second game was against Mukenzie which we lost 6-0.

Our third game was against Simba B and we drew 0-0. Therefore it went to penalties. We won! The penalties were taken by Siddant, Chilando and myself. 

We came 4^th out of 5 teams.

I would like to thank Mrs Kirk and Mr Kapalaula for a great event at Simba. Thanks to God for safe travels.

Rugby at Chengelo

Saturday 25th March Amano took an U19 team of boys to play rugby at Chengelo.

We played our first game against Chengelo A. They had already played a game so they were a bit more prepared and warmed up than what we were. However we went on the field on full alert. In the first half they managed to score a try on the outside because of two missed tackles. We pulled up our socks and played more aggressively. Mwansa managed to score a try and made an incredible conversion from the side-line. After the second half they played a bit smarter and scored another try. We pushed forward and near the end we got them really worried. We had a beautiful run at the wing by Musonda who dove and slid over the try line, nevertheless, the try was not awarded because the linesman changed the referee's mind. We lost that game 7 - 10.

 

Amano's 10's Team

Our second game was against Chengelo B. We were very hungry for some real rugby. That game we had excellent performances by some unexpected players such as Chanda and Xavier. They showed exceptional courage and strength in both tackling and offensive play. In the first half Mwansa managed to score a very dramatic try. In the second half, we really had the opponents worried. We pressed on and confused them and just plainly 'hammered' them. Near the end Musonda managed to score two tries one which was converted by Samuel. We won that game 17 - 0.

Our third and final game was again against Chengelo A again. We sustained a number of injuries from the previous game. Our minds were shut down and Chengelo caught us off guard and scored a try in the first half and another in the second half, ending that game 0 - 12.

I want to really commend the Mwansa brothers for their ecstatic performance on Saturday. They showed excellency in skill, power and drama. I also want to thank Mr Grove for his support to the team and his help to me as a captain and thank God that no one died!

For a team that is rebuilding this year, they have attained some pleasantly surprising results. We were always competitive and sometimes just narrowly missing out, which promises good things for next year. The new boys, Xavier, Broddy, Eun Taec, Chanda, Samuel, Kaoma and Dalitso, though young and generally small, have stepped up well to the challenge. Ilunga has been a stable force through out and our captain Philip led well in the final tournament. The work rate of the rest of the team, notably Mthunzi, has been to a good standard. Well done boys, a good effort. Mr Grove.

Silver in ISAZ Netball

The 18 of March, 2017, brought us back to Baobab, this time to compete in the national ISAZ netball tournament. There were eight schools that had qualified in their regional games but we were only in a pool of three other schools. In our pool were LICS, Lechwe, and Rhodes Park.

 Our first game was against LICS. I think that most of us were still waking up from the half hour bus ride although we had got there an hour before the games had started. We did not have very good defence in this game but it did improve in the second half. However, we beat LICS 10 to 4. Lechwe was our second game. We had lost to them in a previous tournament but this time we beat them 10 to 4. Our next competitor was Rhodes Park. We slacked off a bit more, giving away some easy shots resulting in the score being 9 to 5. We did win this game though.

Because we won all of our pool games, it put us at the top, moving us up to the semi-finals [to play group B runners up]. There was a lot of pressure as we played Banani because we wanted to secure a place in the finals as we did not want the pressure of playing for third and fourth position. We figured that if we won this game that we would likely be playing Chengelo in the finals. This was not the most pleasant thought to dwell on [Chengelo have dominated ISAZ netball for years] but we tried to concentrate on the game that we were playing. There was quite a bit of contact in this game but we beat them by two points with the scores being 11 to 9.

We were now in the finals…against Chengelo. We had played them in the regionals and had lost to them. The description of that game was related to the story of David and Goliath. It again rang true as we most likely had the shortest player of the tournament on our team and they had the tallest. It was a forty minute game with ten minute quarters. We scored the first point of the match. This lifted our hopes of being able to conquer them. They then scored the next four points and our hopes smashed to pieces on the concrete court. This was usually the pattern of how the points were allotted. Our last quarter of the match was our best. We realized then that we needed to have fun. We knew before the game that we were to have fun but I think that it only happened until this last quarter. The scores for this last match of the day, and for some, the last match they would play representing Amano were 32 to 7. Chengelo beat us but I am thankful for the hard work and good attitude that the team and Mr. and Mrs. Grove put in. As a result of all the efforts, we came second in the national ISAZ netball tournament.

We played well as a team and I would like to thank the team for changing their attitude from the day before. Diana Shakwelele, Natasha Chiombe, Kathleen Kaufman, Grace Kampeni, and Naomi Ronald were brilliant attackers. Josiah Muteb, Fernulla Millner, Faith Chansa, Rosemary Nawakwi, and I were excellent defenders. Thank you so much. To Mrs. Grove, we got a silver medal, but I think that as a team we would agree that you would get a gold medal if there ever was a competition to see who the best coach is. Thank you all, once again.
