Boarder's Cook-off

On Sunday March 9th we had our 3rd annual grade 11-12 girl’s vs boy’s termly boarder’s cook-off at Amano.  Each team had to cook a meal which was judged by Miss. Scott and Mr. Kirk.  It was pretty competitive and both teams did quite well, but in the end the boys won (for the first time).  It was a fun evening and everyone enjoyed themselves.  We left with a full stomach and good memories.

Rainy dayz at ACS

Keeping students at Amano Christian School safe and dry during the Rainy Season presents some challenges due to the fact that rainfall is heavy and students move between buildings on a relatively level sight that is generally water-logged. As students know, being on time and the wearing of uniforms is strictly enforced; students know to keep shoes tied and shirts tucked into skirts and trousers at all times and they had better not arrive late. On several occasions this term, we as staff must calculate the weather risks verses keeping to the school schedule. Once after primary assembly and again after lunch, we were trapped in the hall with crashing thunderstorms all around us. Do we run for it between bolts of lightning? No. We wait. When the deluge lets us it’s safe. However, without a quick way to dry 60 pairs of wet socks and trousers calls for some alternative methods coping with a water-logged campus. And alternative methods we have. You can imagine the cheers that erupted in my classroom following this announcement, “Our school does require the wearing of shoes at all times. However, due to the effects of inclement weather, students are allowed to go to lunch and afterwards play barefoot.” Next, “You may go barefoot to the library,” and no one complains. Please enjoy pictures of rainy season days at Amano Christian School.”

Netball Qualifiers

On March 7th it was the netball qualifiers at Lechwe School. It was a rough day as we were tired and had muscle aches from Football qualifiers the previous day. Our first game was against Lechwe and we beat them 11-4. Our next game was against Mpelembe and we just beat them 6-5. Our third game was against Kalulushi and we lost 5-8. We moved on to the quarter final where we played against Simba and beat them 14-6. Because we won our quarter final match we moved on to the semi-final where we met Chengelo. It was a really tough game and we ended up losing 3-14. For the third place playoff we met Kalulushi again and lost to them 7-13. Overall we did very well and came in 4th place. We qualified to go to the nationals. Despite some injuries we still pulled through as a team and finished the games. Well done team!

ISAZ Football qualifiers

We went to Mpelembe School for the qualifiers and had three games on Friday and one on Saturday.
Our first game was against Mpelembe and did not get off to a good start and lacked chances on goal, but our defence was holding up. At Half time the scores were level at 0-0. As the second half started we lost our communication and because of this they scored two goals, so we lost 2-0.

Our second game was against Lechwe but our start was very poor and we lost all focus in the first ten minutes and Lechwe got two very easy goals in the first half. As the second half got underway we started to communicate better and controlled the pace of the game, but it was not enough as we still lacked chances up front, so we lost 2-0.

Our third and final game on Friday was against Ndola Trust when we had a lot more chances up front and our defence was good. We controlled most of the first half but because of an unlucky part on the pitch the ball hit and bounced in a strange way our goalkeeper missed the ball and one of Ndola Trust's strikers scored a header. As the second half got under way we had most of the possession but still were lacking with goals. Towards the end of the second half again we made one goofy mistake and Ndola Trust took advantage of it with a goal, so we lost 2-0 again.

As we lost all of our games on Friday it meant that on Saturday we had to play against the best team on other side of the Copperbelt which was Simba and to win if we wanted to go to the finals at Chengelo.
Before the game, Mr Grove gave us a pep talk and this really helped us to focus and to remember why we even go to sport events.

At the start of the game Simba had most of the possession and had many chances on our goal. Our defence and goal keeper were excellent during the first half Simba had many chances but did not score. As the second half began, right away we could tell that we would have more chances than Simba and we did, our defence never let up either and towards the end of the game our hard work was rewarded with a goal which meant we were finally leading 1-0, but Simba were not going down without a fight. Just as the clock was winding down for full time Simba got a corner kick and took advantage of it by heading in a goal. At full time the scores were level at 1-1 so we went on to penalties, we did our best but we lost 2-5.
Amano played an excellent game and next year I am sure Amano will qualify for the finals.

VENUE: Amano Christian School

Schools/teams: Amano A, Amano B, Nsansa (boys only), Lechwe and Ndola Trust.

Last week Friday, ISAZ cross country competitions were held here at Amano. There were 4 schools but 5 teams including Amano A&B.
The boys Amano A team was comprised of Ethan, Edwin, Fungai, James and I (Sani). We all did very well and I would like to thank James for his great performance despite being new. And Mr Harold too, who never left us alone until we finished the course.

The Amano girls also did very well, with the A team joining the boys with a 1st place position. It was good to see the B team girls contribute to the race also.

Further, many thanks go to:

Ø All the supporters for their good cheering.
Ø All the Amano runners for their good performance-everyone finished the course.
Ø All the staff for their encouragement and cheering.
Ø Mr Grove Mrs Grove and Mr Kirk for the nice route and all in all for making the competition a great success.
