ISAZ National Football

The under 19 girls team went to Baobab College to play in the ISAZ national football games. There were 8 schools present namely, Lechwe, Amano, Ndola Trust, Chengelo, ISL, AISL, Rhodes Park and LICS. We had 3 games to play in our pool and were expected to win at least 2 games to reach the Semi-finals. So we played three schools, Rhodes Park, Lechwe and ISL.

Our first game was against Rhodes Park and we drew the game 0 - 0 [not a bad result as RP were top of Midlands area]. Our second game was against Lechwe, we played better and where able to get a goal in, but the referee said it was not a goal and so we drew that game 0 - 0. Our last and final game was against ISL and we did not play as well as we did in our last game and they were able to score a goal and so we lost that game 1 - 0.

Since all the teams in our pool had equal points [actually a tie for first and a tie for third] we had to go to penalties [to decide pool positions] and only Natalie Grove managed to score a goal and so we lost to RP 2-1. This meant we went to play for 7th place against Ndola Trust and drew again 0 - 0, so again we went to penalties and lost again 2-1 and the penalty was scored again by Natalie Grove, the rest of the team either missed the goal or it was saved by the goalkeeper.

Overall we did not play as well as we did in the regionals and so we lost and came out eighth. We had a period of mood changes so we did not play as well as we usually do. The woman of the match was Natalie Grove, she was optimistic, played really well and had a positive attitude. The other woman of the match was Shoshanna Ronald as she played really well, caught many balls and saved many penalties. After all the mood swings were put aside we played better and had fun as a team and enjoyed our time playing.

Big thanks to Mr Grove for driving us there and coaching us and also to Mrs Grove for coaching and supporting us. An even bigger thanks to God for the weather, good health and safe travels.
